Review: Tales from The Conch Republic - Ralph Krugler - 2009

Ahoy me hearties , come gather round for a tale that will set your ships a' sail and enchant you on a journey through swashbuckling and wavy oceans.
Originally set out to become a comic book , Ralph Krugler has converted his ocean tales into a collection of short stories broken up into Parts.
Not normally the thing I am into , but as I started reading it I was able to imagine the scenery and then along came Captain Daniel Payton. He wakes up on a mysterious island with no recollection of his past , sound familiar -this is a storyline that has been used a million times but somehow still manages to work wonders if used correctly as Ralph Krugler has.
It turns out that our Captain Daniel Payton whose been called more than Captain - names which include ...pirate extraordinaire, vagabond, scoundrel, friend of wenches just to name a few has awoken on the island of Port Elizabeth.
Here he befriends the governor's son Bartholomew and sets out on his journey to regain his life back. The story gets very exciting when he meets a ghost in the form of Jonathon whom was a Navy Captain, In order to accomplish Jonathon's mission he makes a pact with the Pirate Peyton. The deal that was struck: Peyton would get vengeance on the Admiral and in return he would get to keep the cursed ship called the Scavenger. The story continues with Peyton rounding up a crew and then setting out on their mission , Can a Pirate change his ways and help build a crew or has Jonathon chosen someone unreliable and with their own agenda up their sleeve?
With a lively cast of characters, and detailed descriptions of the lands in which they travel, it is not hard to envision yourself as a member of this hearty crew and you can sit back and if you want more effect try reading on a hammock and imagine yourself sailing the seven seas -who knows you might spot the famous Sinbad or Jack Sparrow :)
