Jane Green's 2010 Release : Promises to Keep

Promises to Keep: A NovelLooking around the stores in New Zealand anyway, we can start to notice that Cancer /Breast Cancer days are nearing . With Daffodil Day and then Breast Cancer month in October. The one thing that I like about these months is not only the celebration of awareness as I myself found a lump in my breast but luckily it turned out just to be a cyst of sorts. My other favourite thing is the release of the Breast Cancer stationery , being a big stationery lover and more towards the pen side , every year I make it a habit to pick up the annual release of the Breast Cancer's Parker Pen.

Review : Promises to Keep - Jane Green - 2010

For one family, this year is going to turn out one of the hardest, unforgettable and life-changing moments of their lives and all because of a domino effect that started when older sister Callie was diagnosed with a form of rare cancer that gave her about a year to live.
Steffi, Callie's younger sister has always been a bit of a free-spirited person who seems to only fall for rock-stars and artists aka bad boys. When her last boyfriend splits , she decides it's time to go on a guy sabbatical. When she is offered via a customer to rent his cottage in Sleepy Hollow in return for looking after his horse-dog Fingal she jumps at the chance. What happens when the one thing Steffi wants a break from keeps following her in the form of handyman Stan and Author Mason , will she finally find herself or will she continue flurrying through life ?
Callie, the main character of the story in a sense has been diagnosed with Cancer . Her life has always revolved around work and her children especially with a husband whom constantly travels for his job. When things start to become more serious, Callie must put on a brave face and have the "talk" with her husband about the afterwards. Can Callie continue to put on a brave face for her friends and family or will it just end up too much to handle ?
Honor and Wallace , their parents divorced over thirty years ago and from the on have never been able to be in a room together. When their daughter's need them the most , are they able to A) patch up the past or B)put it aside to work together and who knows what actually might happen when the two of them start spending more time together?
Lila , Callie's oldest friend and Honor's surrogate daughter . Lila has spent her years growing up with having Honor like a second mum. Now nearing her forties , she has finally met the man of her dreams and he's Jewish too but there's one thing standing in her way of a chance at happiness - his crazy ex-wife and the "children" talk. What happens when the one thing she never wanted of her own "children" end up becoming a reality when she finds herself pregnant and her name as the guardian of Callie's two children .
What follows is a novel about the hard choices that we have to face and the fact that no matter how old you get, that you are still your parent's children and the most important thing learnt in Promises to Keep is the lesson of Enduring Love.
