Review- Kill You Last , by Todd Strasser

Are you a fan of Todd Strasser's books ? Have you read his Thrillogy books or been following the series as I read and reviewed Books #1 and #2 - Wish You Were Dead and Blood on my hands. Get ready for the final conclusion of Todd Strasser's Thrillogy .
Review: Kill You Last - Book#3 Thrillogy - Todd Strasser- November 2011
Ever since I was younger, I have always been a Todd Strasser fan and when I discovered the first book in the Thrillogy I just knew I had to read the rest as I was hooked. One of my favourite genres is Mystery novels and what I loved about Todd Strasser's Kill You Last was that he used modern technology , what once would have been anonymous messages sent by Post are now email messages and text messages received on the main character Shelby's  Blackberry and her friend Roman , a huge crime fiction and non-fiction buff reads her books and surfs the news on her Ipad. In Kill You Last , Shelby receives text messages and emails threatening to Kill her last because they like her , the next one though is the one that sets the story as it asks her "Do you really know the truth about your father?" . Shelby worried heads to her Dad's model studio and discovers her father being questioned by the police as two girls that signed up at her father's modelling agency have gone missing. Is this just a coincidence or something more sinister ? Soon the investigation escalates and Shelby finds herself bombarded with threatening messages and one's encouraging her to dig deeper about her father. Is her father guilty of having something to do with the three girls who have disappeared or is somebody setting him up ? Shelby eager to find out whose behind the messages and what's really going on puts on her Harriet the Spy Hat along with friends Roman and reporter Whit to discover the truth but if Shelby's not careful- she may be the one winding up dead next.
Fans of Anne Cassidy's books and Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series will love Todd Strasser's Thrillogy.

Review- Seven Up, By Janet Evanovich

I am slowly making my way through the Stephanie Plum books , when I realised that there was a film coming out I thought to myself, hmmmm I must start reading the books and so my mission for 2012 is to read the complete series of Stephanie Plum. However, because I find the books quite busy with their plots, I have to even them out between other books.
Review: Seven Up - Book #7 Stephanie Plum Series - Janet Evanovich - June 2001
I adore this series as I know that whenever I flick open a new one to start , it will be outrageously funny and I will be hooked. Though with the upside of myself loving the series and knowing they will be great as the more you read them , the more you become familiar with the characters and their habits e.g Granny and her love of Stiva's funeral home and the fact that whenever they have closed-casket funerals , she just has to get into the middle of the action and take a peek inside the casket and of course as we know Stephanie has a charm for finding Dead bodies and one's that are bad enough to host closed-caskets that this is a reoccurring theme. Stephanie and her choice of men , the almost but not love triangle between Stephanie Plum (bounty hunter) , Joe Morelli ( cop) and Ranger (bounty hunter). The fun-loving big-boned sidekick Lula, always at Stephanie's side when she's on the bounty hunter trail and of course, the constant nagging of Stephanie's mum asking why oh why can't she get a normal job as they always seem to have openings at the button factory. The only downside I find when reading the Stephanie Plum books and Seven Up was no different, is that the plots are too busy - so many different things happening and lots of characters.

In Seven Up, Eddie Gooch has missed his bail date and for an old man he's normally not really a threat and he owes Vinnie bail money so the file is given to Stephanie. For Stephanie , this case turns out to be personal as Eddie had a fling recently with her Grandmother Mazur and it seems that Eddie did business with old classmates of hers Dougie and Mooner. When Eddie is nowhere to be found and Stephanie finds a dead body in Eddie's garage - has he done a runner ?
All seems a bit suspicious but gets really weird when Dougie goes missing and Mooner turns up to Stephanie's looking for help.  It seems though as usual Stephanie isn't short of male company as a couple of Eddie's friends want her help in locating Eddie. However it seems that this case isn't exactly going anywhere , so Stephanie does what she always does when she gets in a jam- Calls Ranger for help. Ranger willing to help her , in return of a favour- she is to spend the WHOLE night with him. This would normally not be awkward but it seems wedding plans are circulating about Joe and Stephanie .
We also meet Stephanie's sister Val and her two daughters when they make a surprise visit to her parent's house, arriving in a Taxi which is like the Limo equivalent in the burg of Trenton, New Jersey.

Another wonderful and humourous tale in the life of Stephanie Plum written by the talented Janet Evanovich and stay tuned readers when I bring you book #8 in the Stephanie Plum Series.

Review: Uglies - Shay's Story , By Scott Westerfeld

Have you read Scott Westerfeld's series "Uglies" ? A stroy of a society in which when they turn 16, they are made "Pretties" but of course in those Pretties are the special circumstance cases which we discovered in "Specials" and of course everybody else is just an extra which finished the Series with the book "Extras".

Review: Uglies - Shay's Story - Scott Westerfeld, Devin Grayson and Steven Cummings -March 6th 2012
As I am surrounded by Dystopian as it takes it's spot on the shelves as the New Vampires , it didn't surprise me to see a new copy of Uglies and in Graphic Novel but then when I looked at it closer , I discovered that it was told from Shay's POV. This made me more interested as I am not normally a fan of Graphic Novels/Manga but certain ones I have been found to enjoy.
Uglies Shay's story is basically a prequel I think to the novel "Uglies" which was told by Tally Youngblood's POV. In Uglies , we meet Tally who is due to become a pretty in 2 weeks time , shortly before the 2 weeks she meets Shay. Shay and Tally share the same birthday but Shay has a secret, she is not interested in becoming a Pretty . She wants to remain her individual self and so she starts to follow the path of the "Crims" aka Criminals.
In the new Graphic Novel , we read and focus on Shay , what made her realise she didn't want to end up a Pretty, yet it had been the one day in her life that she had been looking forward too and she adored their clothes and dresses. How one night of breaking curfew going out on her Hoverboard and doing tricks lead her to a group of Uglies nicknamed "Crims".
Easy to read and lovely illustrations , Uglies: Shay's Story is a quick read and perfect for those who love reading the Graphic Novels and Manga.  I also think that if you aren't a great reader or reading's not really your thing , just to grasp the concept of Dystopia - Uglies Shay's Story is the perfect place to start.
It will be interesting to see if they continue to write the rest of the series from the other main character's point of views.

Review: Killer Spirit - Jennifer Lynn Barnes

When I was younger, I used to love the movie "Harriet the Spy" and always imagined being a Top Secret Spy , so readers here's a spygirl novel from Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Review: Killer Spirit - Book #2 The Squad - Jennifer Lynn Barnes - February 2008
I have always had a thing for girl spy novels , not so much the guys ones but I loved the SpyGirl type books like Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter, SpyGirl by Carol Hedges ,Spy Goddess by Michael Spradlin and The Model Specialists by Shannon Greenland. When I discovered that Jennifer Lynn Barnes, a favourite author of mine had a series out called "The Squad" I just had to read it and unfortunately I've ended up reading Book #2 first LO due to the silly settings on my Ipad I thought I was reading Book #1.
In Killer Spirit , we meet Toby - a computer hacker who has joined the Varsity Cheerleading Squad but the cheerleaders aren't what they seem - this cheerleading squad is in fact a cover for "The Squad" - a group of teenage girls working for the CIA.
In Killer Spirit, it seems that a nanotech weapon has been stolen and it is up to the Squad to retrieve it and put a stop before the weapon is used for Terriost acts.
Killer Spirit gets us into the mood for high stealth action but of course the squad have another problem on hand - It's Homecoming Weekend with the Pep Rally , Cheerleading events and of course Homecoming Dance where a King and Queen will be crowned and six of the Cheerleaders are up for the Crown. Who will win ? Can the girls keep their eyes and ears open on the mission at hand or will Homecoming, Boys and Body Glitter get in the way ?
Find out in Book #2 Killer Spirit , a book that reminded me a cross between the movies D.E.B.S - a group of college girl spies and Man about the House - A movie where the cheerleaders are put in the Witness protection programme.

Review: Incarnate - Jodi Meadows

Looking for another Dystopian Book ? On a Dystopian Fix ?
Review : Incarnate - Book #1 NewSoul-Jodi Meadows -January 2012
As I've said plenty of times before , I am unfortunately a cover whore :P , I am obsessed with covers of books -the prettier the better and I guarantee unless I really know the author's books , I will only pick up the book due to the cover. Incarnate was a bit of both as I had heard the book circulating around in reviews and the cover is amazing. It holds an almost Prism look , the look when the sun reflects a diamond or a piece of glass.
It seems that the theme of books have moved from the supernatural life of Vampires and Werewolves after the major popularity of Twilight to the world of Dystopian fiction after the popularity of The Hunger Games.
Incarnate to me , had it's good points as well as it's bad as Incarnate tells the tale of a society in which the characters are reincarnated , all have died and been reborn in another one's body. It normally works that when someone dies , a baby is born shortly after with the deceased person's soul inside . The story starts 23years ago when a lady by the name of Ciana died , the town waited for her to be rebirthed and 18yrs ago Ana is born - everyone expects Ciana's soul to be within her but it's later discovered that Ana is a newsoul - one that has never been re-incarnated, she is the only one of her kind. Hidden away from the world and punished for being who she is , on her 18th birthday sets out to discover why this happened and what makes her -her . Along the journey, she mets Sam - a reincarnated soul and soon the pair of them connect and Sam takes her under his wing but somebody is trying to rid the world of Ana and is setting up Sam - her only true friend. Can Sam truly fall in love with Ana - a newsoul or is it true that the re-incarnated souls have long lasting soulmates ?
Incarnate reminded me of the film Aeon Flux starring Charlize Theron with the rebirthing of souls and there is a masquerade ball scene in the novel which reminds me of Drew Barrymore's movie "Ever After" A Cinderella Story.
The downside of this novel to me was that the author chucked in the midst of the story , a dragon attack which I think could have been left out as it really did not flow with the story.
In saying that though, I do look forward to reading Book #2 of Incarnate and to see where the tale of Sam and Ana ends up.

Review: Everneath - Brodi Ashton

Looking for a teen novel that contains a rendition of Greek Mythology ?
Review: Everneath - Book #1 Everneath Series - February 2012
Are you a fan of Greek Mythology ? Love to read the tale of Persephone and Hades ? The one where Persephone found herself captured by Hades and then after a certain amount of time decided whether her life was to spent in the Underworld with Hades or on Mount Olympus. Reading Everneath by Brodi Ashton reminded me alot of the books "Abandon" by Meg Cabot and "Goddess of Spring" by PC Cast as they both contain their version of a contemporary rendition of the Greek mythology of Persephone and Hades.
In Everneath, we meet Nikki Beckett , whom six months ago - her life as she knew it vanished and she disappeared off the face of the earth and landed in the Underworld where she meet Cole. Now six months later, she has managed to escape the Underworld and return to her old life but it won't be easy as like most American high schools - there are rumour's ablazing of where Nikki has been the last six months and the most common one - Rehab due to drugs.
If only moving on and going forth with her life was easy as Cole has followed Nikki to her world from Everneath in the hopes that he can entice Nikki to return with him and take her rightful place as Queen of the Everneath but Nikki has other ideas as her heart belongs to Jack - her mortal once boyfriend.
The clock's ticking as Nikki has only six months to make the decision of a lifetime and if she's not careful, she might just make the wrong decision and choose the wrong guy .
Who will Nikki choose - Jack the Mortal or Cole the Immortal ?
Find out in Brodi Ashton's new series "Everneath".
