Review: I am Rebecca - Fleur Beale

Review: I am Rebecca - Book #2 I am Not Esther Series - Fleur Beale - August 2014

One of my all-time favourite New Zealand fiction books is written by author Fleur Beale and is called "I am Not Esther" which told the story of a young girl Kirby who had to go live with her aunty and uncle in their church sect after her mother ended up in the hospital after having a breakdown. Kirby then ended up having her name changed to Esther Pilgrim. At the end of the novel, we read as Esther left the church and moved to Wellington along with the older two siblings Miriam and Daniel who had also left the church. In the sequel , it focuses on the twins Rachel and Rebecca Pilgrim and talks about how they had to move with their church down south and start anew. The girls are also nearing the age of marriage pairing and are hoping they both receive someone nice and caring. All goes well when they are both paired with someone they care about and can see a future with but things don't always turn out the way things are planned as the Elder of the church's wife ends up falling ill and when she passes, he must take on a new bride of whom "God" supposedly has chosen for him. When it turns out to be Rebecca , she cannot believe she is being made to marry the Elder as he is old enough to be her Grandfather. When out selling their organic food at the market, the twins run into their cousin Kirby formerly known as Esther and thoughts start rolling around in Rebecca Pilgrim's head. Will Rebecca take the only way out she can see and leave or will she stay and follow her family's desires and marry the Elder ?
This was another wonderful story written by Fleur Beale and as equally as great to read as I am Not Esther.
