Review: Gathering Frost - Book #1 Once Upon a Curse Series - Kaitlyn Davis - February 2015

One of my favourite things to read about is renditions of past classics and fairytales and Gathering Frost falls into that category as it features the Ice Queen and a twist of the tale "Sleeping Beauty". When Jade was seven years old, she was out riding her bike with her mum in Central Park, New York when disaster striked and an earthquake appeared. In the midst of the rubble, grew a castle and Jade saw what she thought was a princess. Turned out though that it was in fact "The Ice queen" and she hadn't come to save New York but in fact use it as her kingdom. Years passed and under the spell of the Queen , her people became complacent and emotionless, one of those was Jade. She became the best fighter there ever was and was one of the Queen's favourites. While out patrolling one night, Jade comes face to face with a rebel party but to her surprise the one leading it is none other than Prince Asher - the Queen's son who disappeared the night of the earthquake and has never been seen again until now. Passing the information back to the Queen, she gives Jade a mission - to be captured by the Rebels and earn the Prince's trust and then bring him home to the Ice Queen. The thing is as Jade spends more time on the outside world, she starts to feel again and develop emotions and feelings and one in particular - Love for Asher. Turns out later near the end of the novel , that Asher is needed to transfer Magic , but the curse can be broken with --- you guessed it , true love. The curse is broken and all should live Happily Ever After, or so we thought but what happens when it is revealed to Jade , that Asher is already engaged ? Was the curse really broken by True Love or does True Love not matter in this day and age ? One thing I was hoping for in this book was the reunion of Jade and her mother, but did not recieve it. Maybe we might see it in later books or it will leave the reader wondering what the outcome was and if Jade did ever get her HEA .

Review: Steel Princess - Book #2 Royal Elite Series - Rina Kent - December 2019 At the end of Book #1, we were left on a cliffhanger of Elsa being pushed into the pool. At the beginning of book #2, she is saved by a newcomer to the school - Knox.  We can see some friendly flirting but nothing more going on between these two, but it riles up Aiden who still has this mindset of "if I can't have her, no-one can" especially since he is supposed to be engaged to Silver Queens. During Book #2 Elsa starts to recall some more memories and goes to Dr.Khan in hopes that he can open her Pandora's box and can restore her full memories of what happened before she was seven years old. We also catch a glimpse during this book of her past and why Aiden King's father blames her for his mother's death and why Aiden considered Elsa a ghost. Review: Dr. Strange Beard - Book #5 Winston Brothers Series - Penny Reid - July 2018 If there is a family that I love to read about it has been the Winston Brothers. This has to be one of my favorite book series out there as the brothers ; you can't help but fall in love with them all - with their funny quirks and their redneck comments.
